Want a colour laser for your office? The two top-contenders for best machine under $1000 are the Fuji Xerox C3210DX and the Hewlett Packard CP2025DX.

In this review we're going to put them head to head and find out which one comes out on top.

Speed

For a colour laser printer with a price-tag under $1000, the HP CP2025 delivers a respectable 21 pages per minute. However, the Xerox C3210DX is much faster with 30 pages per minute (mono) and 25 pages per minute (colour). The Xerox also has a quicker first-page-out speed with only 17 sec versus the HP's 18 seconds.

Image Quality

The Xerox has a much higher DPI at 1200x1200 where as the HP only has 600x600. In terms of image quality the Xerox will produce better images then the HP, and the much higher DPI helps with that.

Features

Both the HP and the Xerox have a few printer languages (PCL6, PCL5, Adobe PostScript 3, HBPL, FX-PDF) which will cover all print job. The Xerox can hold much more paper with a 550 sheet feeder compared to a 250 sheet feeder for the HP. Also in terms of running costs the Xerox is much better. At 20% coverage on an A4 page (5% coverage of each colour) the HP is up to 25.7 cents per page where as the Xerox is at 13.5 cents!

Duty Cycle and Paper

Both the Xerox and the HP state that the duty cycle is up to 40,000 pages per month, but the HP recommends a monthly page volume 750 to 2000. The HP can offer a paper weight of 163GSM, but the Xerox can offer up to 216GSM.
