It's cheap to buy but a prestige brand that's known for quality!
Exclusive Bulk Buy by AIM Australia.
Ideal for the kids to play games on, or that really big movie or sporting event. Sanyo quality at a budget price.
ULTRA-COMPACT, FULLY PORTABLE SVGA DESIGN Do you really need 1080 HD? That depends on how far back you intend to sit! If you're right on top of a TV then why not, but from say 5-6m back from a projected image the difference would not be great between a 720p (Still HD) and 1080p HD Max.. See for yourself the following 2 images simulate 720 & 1080 sitting at your PC it's easy to see the difference but try 3m back :) |reviews|
HIGH BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST PDG-DSU20 F2.51-2.69 ZOOM LENS AUTO INPUT SEARCH SPECIAL FEATURES Sanyo PDG SU20 review. We're not saying the Sanyo PDG-SU20 is as good as a Sanyo PLV-Z2000 BUT it's about 1/4 the price and from 5m back the difference is not as much as you'd expect. If you want to watch the latest HD Blu-Ray disks in a dedicated cinema room this is not what we'd recommend. If you want a low cost quality brand projector that can do a good job with the games, hold it's own on your movie nights or football/sporting events this could be just what you've been waiting for. We may have to charge more because sometime people think Foxtel is Standard Definition, (no matter what they about high quality) watching re-runs of Sienfield you'll find it hard to justify paying more for a full 1080P projector. Watching standard DVD's ditto. What's more impressive on a "Footy night" a 42 inch plasma that acts like a big mirror or 100-300 inch image filling the whole wall? From 4-6m back it's hard to count the dots whatever projector you're using! Have a look at a Bill Board large dots but from a distance can you see them? HERE is a review on resolution we wrote, people who print all the hype don't like it. Spot the difference Below we've snapped pictures from a DVD on the Sanyo PDG-SU20 (top) plus one from the latest and greatest HD projector Sanyo PLV-Z2000. It's hard to do justice with a camera, have no doubt the Z2000 is better but like most things in life you pay a lot for the last few percent of improvement and remember this is a standard DVD not Blu-Ray which is the sort of source material you'd want to show on a HD projector to easily see the difference. Kid Proof The top 1080p LCD models all use the same C2fine light engine which won't have the problem in the image below. The SU20 on this page is DLP. In the lower price range DLP is a good choice because the picture engine does not fade with time like most low cost LCD models do if used too much. In the image (DLP friendly publication) below the LCD projector was left on continuously which is not what it was designed to cope with this may have caused a premature partial failure of the LCD engine.
Low cost LCD models are designed for a few hours per day, if you were to leave on on for a few days in a row that would most lightly damage the LCD panels (as above) the result being the picture looking a bit sad or happy if you like the new colour scheme. (An "Under 4 hour use at a time" condition is sometimes hidden in the warranty fine print) Leaving a DLP model on like the Sanyo PDG-SU20 won't hurt it. If you're not checking on the kids to ensure they give the projector time out then DLP is the go. We have always said for some uses it's DLP and others LCD it depends on many factors. If you'd like to know more just drop us a line. Be Happy A very few people don't like looking at DLP in this case Purchase from us and you're covered by AIM with our "Be Happy" warranty (see conditions on this page) which basically means you can swap for another model and pay the difference.
Conclusion Using the same source material DVD the Z2000 is better, but for the price in a non-dedicated room is it four times better? We don't think so, if you're in the market for the top of the range projector then buy the Z2000 and be done with it. For a great entry level projector that your friends won't bet didn't cost thousands more consider the latest offering from Sanyo tge PDG-SU20. For what you're spending you get an entry level projector that makes a 42" Plasma TV look like a toy on film or sports and PC games nights.
